History}
In the world of Horizon, the Future has reverted back to the Past. That is, after an apocalyptic event, the only remaining lifeforms on Earth live in Japan, with sections of the island for different countries from the 100 Year’s War and Feudal Era. England, France, Japan, Spain, Russia and the Middle East all own a part of the Japanese landmass, each ruled by the original Japanese clans and the new country’s rulers. For instance, Hexagone Française is made up of the Mori Clan, and is situated in Western Honshu. The countries are expected to follow the events from history as told to them by a ruling religious group known at the Testament Union. And so, even though it it’s the far future, the people are forced to recreate bloody events in order to figure out where in history things went wrong.
Adele was born to a strict class structure, as a Retainer who is supposed to serve Knights. At some point when she was a child, Adele and her family moved to the Musashi, the flying battleship that represents The Far East, or the old Japan for the needs of history recreation. There she attended school with the Knight she is supposed to be serving, Nate Mitotsudaira, a half-werewolf girl.
Because the Testament Union believes the Far East was responsible for the previous apocalypse that ruined humanity, they are severely limited in regards to their military. The only people who are eligible to fight in a war are students under the age of 18 and enrolled at the Ariadust Academy on the Musashi. That means their front line soldiers are simply teenagers, who have to take classes like math and science, and learn how to fight.
Things were fine aboard the Musashi until she was in her Junior year of high school, as a part of class 3-Plum. The leader of the entire country (which is to say the Musashi, which is 100,000 people strong) is a classmate of her’s, who happens to be the class dunce. That dunce is Aoi Toori, who lost his childhood friend Horizon Ariadust as a young child. It turns out that Horizon is alive in the body of a robot, but her emotions are gone. The emotions were ripped out of her and implanted 7 incredible powerful weapons, one given to each nation. Because of that Toori decides to declare war against the entire world, to take back his love’s emotions.
Adele is caught up in the struggle, as a member of the Delegation Committee, and a fighter who is able to participate in war. So with the rest of her friends in Class 3-Plum and the residents of the flying ship Musashi, they travel the world in order to get Horizon’s emotions back.
Personality} Adele understands her place in the world, and accepts it, though she seems fond to complain. She knows she is a retainer, to be used as the Knights see fit. Luckily, the only Knight that is her age that attends her school is Nate, a friend of her’s. She even uses the handle, “Poor Retainer” to chat online, an indication that she understands that she is a retainer, doomed to be poor in service of a high class.
And yet, Adele has things to be proud of. Her father was a great warrior in his time, and passed along his spear to Adele. He told her that he left his country to protect his King, and that the spear’s crests symbolizes his loyalty. When asked about it Adele is proud of her father, and of her own ambition to protect her King, Toori. Adele wants to become a Knight herself one day, so she tries to live up to their standards.
Adele’s role on the ship when there is no school or war, is to take care of the many dogs that live on Musashi. She never really wanted the job, she just couldn’t bear to see people ignoring them as they grew smelly and went without food. So she took it upon herself to feed and wash and walk the dogs. Of course, this leads everyone on the ship to believe that Adele owns the two dozen or so dogs that she is always seen with. As much as she loves them, she is unwilling to admit she is their owner for fear that more people will bring dogs to her. Adele has this soft side, even if she doesn’t want to admit it. She loves taking care of the dogs and other people, seeming to live her life for others than herself.
More than anything, Adele hates her body. Many of her classmates are incredibly well endowed, something the extremely flat retainer cannot overlook. It’s for that reason that she gets along with Nate so well, the two flat chested girls in their class. Adele’s jealousy is something she mostly internalizes though, causing her to further feel sorry for herself.
Adele is a trustworthy girl, someone people don’t mind believing in. Toori, as leader of Musashi (but incredibly useless himself) put Adele in charge of the ship during the Battle of Lepanto, putting each and every life aboard the floating city in her hands. During the fight Adele showed her ability to think critically and mostly keep calm. Her ingenious strategy of doing a giant backflip with the ship won the battle for their side just as things were looking grim.
When she’s not playing with the dogs or in school, she enjoys playing rhythm video games, and even writing songs with her friend Suzu.
Abilities} Adele lives in a world of werewolves, fairies, nukes, robo-dragons, and schools of teenage warriors who fight for their lives. In this world Adele is one of the fastest, due to a contract she has with a God. This allows her to artificially boost her speed by applying a spell Frame to her feet. Though she is fast, her skill with the spear is subpar. Her only hope is to overwhelm an object with a single attack.
Baggage} Ichiban no Yari, a giant spear that’s bigger than she is.
Mechanic Shell: Raging Beast: A large blue mech that is big enough for Adele to ride inside. It’s near impervious to cannons and gunfire, as well as most manner of weapons. However, it’s incredibly slow, useful more as a defensive wall than anything else.
